Dr Alex Hamilton

Dr Alex Hamilton has particular expertise in corneal surgery including corneal transplantation, refractive (laser) surgery and cataract surgery. He also specialises in retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusions. 

He aims to provide the highest quality eye surgery. He believes in clear communication and patient-centred care.

Training & Experience

Dr Hamilton completed medical school at the University of Newcastle. He undertook his ophthalmology specialist training at Sydney Eye Hospital.

After completing his training in Sydney, he spent two years gaining further subspecialist experience at the two largest eye hospitals in the United Kingdom. At Manchester Royal Eye Hospital he completed a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship. He then completed a medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He then travelled to New York and Paris to gain further international experience working with world experts in cataract and refractive surgery.

Academic & Research

Dr Hamilton holds an honorary academic position at the University of Sydney, is actively involved in research and has published in international journals.

As well as his clinical work in Australia, he remains committed to public health and improving the quality of health globally. He holds a Master of Public Health and investigated the African HIV epidemic at the World Health Organization in Geneva. He also previously worked as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in London.
